Preventative Healthcare

To stay healthier and prolong your quality of life, take a look at the following basic lists of prevention recommendations:
Recommended for Men Recommended for Women
  • Screening for diabetes, hypercholesterolemia and blood pressure: every year starting at age 35
  • Screening for prostate cancer: starting at age 40
  • Testicular exams: starting at age 18
  • Colonoscopy (screening for colon cancer): starting at the age of 50 every 5 years

 

  • Pap smear: every 1 to 2 years
  • Mammogram: starting at the age of 40 every 2 years, after the age of 50 every year
  • Screening for diabetes, hypercholesterolemia and blood pressure: every year starting at age 40
  • Colonoscopy (screening for colon cancer): starting at the age of 50 every 5 years
  • Osteoporosis: first screening after menopause, daily calcium intake 1500 milligrams per day, daily weight-bearing exercise 30 minutes per day
Optional screening for sexually transmitted diseases is available.
Diet
Recommended balanced diet with less carbohydrates, moderate proteins, and less fat.  Avoid sugars.  Supplement your diet with multivitamins and calcium with Vitamin D at least 1 gram a day.  For more information call for an appointment (630) 534-6100.
